Violet and redcurrant lifted clean off the marl, tannins pressed like linen. Thirty francs for Chinon of this stature — heerlijk, and faintly unjust to everything else on the table.
Flight 4 'Loire Cabernet Franc'. Single vineyard on calcareous marl; Bernard Baudry. Runner-up red.
