Grand cuisine in a highly compact space

Soi in Zürich is tiny. But what this lovely team manages to pull off there simply blew me away. A wonderfully uncomplicated spot with an atmosphere that feels instantly, incredibly gezellig despite the tight squeeze. The front-of-house crew are super friendly and work with a genuine, unforced warmth. Splendid!

When it came to the food, they got straight to business. At the very beginning, the balance of spices was admittedly a tiny bit off (the tartare), but that was quickly forgotten. What followed was an absolute masterclass in freshness and craftsmanship. Crisp, vibrant and cooked with fantastic ingredients. The absolute highlight? The suckling pig – incredibly juicy with a perfect crackling. And then that Wagyu sandwich. Lekker! A melt-in-the-mouth dream between two slices of bread that is worth every single penny.

As a wine fanatic, I naturally pay very close attention. The wine list at Soi is a real surprise and seriously well-stocked. The drinks, by the way, come from the renowned Widder Bar – and you can tell immediately from the quality. My only slight disappointment: the standard wine glasses are a bit uninspiring. My insider tip for you: simply ask for the special wine glasses from Widder. It makes drinking them twice as much fun. At the end of the day, I was completely thrilled. This is honest, magnificent gastronomy without any fuss. Lekker!
