Location & History
The Genuss Galerie Röthelberg is located at Blasenbergstrasse 15 in Zug, offering spectacular views of Lake Zug and the Swiss Alps. The historic building was originally moved to its current location from the St. Verena Chapel by Melchior Schell, and was built in its present form in 1902. After various uses as a traditional tavern and Italian ristorantes, the city-owned venue reopened in April 2025 with an innovative guest chef concept.
The restaurant is located at Blasenbergstrasse 15 in Zug, above the old town at the foot of the Zugerberg.
The building was originally dismantled near the St. Verena Chapel and rebuilt at its current location.
Historically, the name 'Röthel' goes back to the ginger-red hair of the former landlady Dorothea Schell-Utinger (up to 1822).
The current main building and the adjacent utility building were erected in 1902.
Previous restaurant names at this address were 'Ristorante Pasteria Röthelberg' and most recently 'Ristorante Noi Röthelberg'.
Following its closure in August 2024, the city of Zug leased the property to new operators, leading to its reopening in April 2025 as the 'Genuss Galerie Röthelberg'.
The Good, the Bad & the Ugly
What I read about this address in the press and online, before and after my visit — summed up here so you can put my own impressions in context.
The Good
The Ugly
